Little Bay : The Beach with No Beach Access

And adding to that list is Little Bay. Anguilla's only beach with no actual beach access.

On any day - cloudy or sunny, in high or low season - Anguilla's littlest secret stands the test of time for being one of the most breathtaking and untouched locales over on Anguilla's east coast.

That's not to say the beach isn't accessible. As one of Anguilla's protected marine parks - Little Bay is one of Anguilla's most-rewarding snorkelling destinations.

It doesn't get more laid-back than at Little Bay. A tiny nook, less than 300m long, its natural geography renders any construction unfeasible. That's right - no beach bars, restaurants, nay, not even a kiosk is available within half a mile.

And that's exactly the natural appeal of Little Bay. On the best days you can have Little Bay all to yourself…

On other days you might see the occasional kayaker, friendly boaters enjoying the view from the ocean or even the ever so quaint beach picnic-party…The truth is, it's never really crowded.

Little Bay has no road, trail nor footpath that leads you directly to its foamy crystalline shoreline. Nestled between dramatic cliff sides, Little Bay is truly a rugged untouched gem. Powdery white sands virtually tucked away from the rest of Anguilla. Away from everything, just you, the beach and the views…

What to Do at Little Bay

Little Bay bustles with life under the waves. Be sure to pack your snorkelling gear to get a front-and-center seat to the underwater matinee. On a dive, expect appearances from the occasional shy green sea turtle, scuttering clusters of cephalopods tucked into the underwater rocky crevices and the oh-so ornery spiny lobster. And of course, concerts of strikingly coloured fish that practically welcome you as a guest to their Anguilla, down under 😉.

Another special attraction is the Little Bay Rock: a large boulder, roughly 10 metres high, protruding from the ocean just a five-minute swim from shore. Little Bay Rock attracts its fair share of thrill-seekers, who dare to climb to the top before taking the plunge into the deep-blue below. For many, it's something of a rite of passage at Little Bay.

How To Get To Little Bay

There are mainly two ways to get to Little Bay: by land or by sea.

As we've mentioned, Little Bay has no road or trail that leads directly to the beach. Instead, the most determined of beach-goers usually arrive above Little Bay, along its encircling cliff side. Then, they make the trek down the familiar path before scaling the cliffs down to the beach.

Guests and locals alike find it a badge of honour to, "Scale the way, to Little Bay.

But if you're thinking the beach's access is limited to only the most able-bodied around us, do not be alarmed. There are many ways to get to Little Bay. Over at Crocus Bay, is Calvin - a boater always ready to ship people over to Little Bay for a small price. The entire trip takes less than 10 minutes. After he drops you off, he organises a pick-up time so you're never stranded.

Another option includes renting water-sports rentals from da'Vidas at Crocus Bay. SUP boards, kayaks and paddle boats are all available and can be rented for a fixed amount of time. A day at da'Vida's just isn't complete without a paddle on over to Little Bay.

Booking a daytime or sunset cruise with a local charter is another popular option - guaranteeing you experience Little Bay in style.

Sunsets at Little Bay are the best ways to enjoy this tiny beach to the fullest. As the golden sun hits the bay from behind its jagged cliff-side nook, the water transforms into a metallic shade of blue. Simply mesmerising, this magical money shot fully captivates you.
