Love Shack recently celebrated its first anniversary, and in that short time it has cemented itself as one of Anguilla's go-to nightlife destinations. Here's a look back at what makes this Sandy Ground beach bar so loveable.

The Place

A year ago, Love Shack began a new chapter on Anguilla's beach-bar scene: a charming, bungalow-style bar on the edge of Sandy Ground bay.

During the day, it's the perfect spot to catch dazzling views of Sandy Ground, the busy fishing boats and the colourful spread of umbrellas along the shore.

At night, the lightweight, open-air design transforms into a starlit dance floor. It has become the classic late-night get-together spot where locals and tourists alike gather over good food, drinks, music and time by the sea.

A big part of Love Shack's rise is its weekly roster of live entertainment. During the week, nights are more relaxed and made for intimate dinners. But come the weekend, all roads lead to Love Shack.

The Food

An examination of Love Shack's success would be incomplete without a mention of another of their winning combos — the food and laid-back beachside dining. Their menu is forever evolving, just like them, so here's a snapshot of what to expect on a current visit.

A juicy steak patty, stacked with cheese, bacon, lettuce and tomato. Perfect at dinner time after a long day, or late-night after a fun night out.

Scrumptious, pillowy soft shell tacos, reggae inspired, with fresh greens, sharp cheddar cheese and a choice of toppings from shrimp, fish, lobster or chicken. They serve up the classic Caribbean colours of red, gold and green in savoury three-piece soft shells. They hit the spot and the portions are more than filling.

Love Shack has climbed the ranks to become Anguilla's premier late-night pizzeria. With a page-long list of options, people flock every night to pick up the best-selling item.

Their fresh, oven-baked pizzas — hands down, their chewy crust and perfect cheese pull easily explain why Love Shack pizzas are so sought after. Some options include meat lovers, spiny lobster and their own classic "underwater mix": local lobster, swordfish and shrimp.

For something more elevated, try the whole grilled snapper, freshly grilled lobster or the soups.

Their heart-warming soups are made fresh each day and are always available all evening long.

Love Shack offers two selections of whole spiny lobster — grilled and fried — both prepared and seasoned to delectable levels of perfection.

Served with a side of johnnycakes and their special in-house lobster butter sauce, one serving can easily feed multiple people.

Their whole fish options include tastily prepared whole snapper and what they refer to as "pot fish" — a choice of hine, snapper or grouper, either fried or grilled whole.

Other selections include their tasty wings in a spicy variety. Tasty sides include fluffy johnnycake sliders, crispy mahi-mahi fish bites, and a selection of potato wedges and fries, including sweet potato.

All their fries can be used in their loaded fries — just ask and they'll be happy to modify it.

One Year Down, Many More to Go
